What are the pros and cons of hardwood flooring versus ceramic tiles?

I'm torn between hardwood flooring and ceramic tiles for my new home. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of each? I'm particularly concerned about durability, maintenance, and cost. Any personal experiences to share?
