Drywall installation: Tips for beginners? 🧰

Hi all! I’m about to tackle drywalling my basement. I’ve never done it before and I’m looking for any tips to make the process smoother. How do I avoid common pitfalls?

My biggest tip for beginners is to take your time measuring and cutting—measure twice, cut once. Use a utility knife to score and snap the drywall instead of cutting all the way through; it’s easier and cleaner that way.

Start by measuring and cutting your drywall panels carefully, leaving about 1/8 inch gap for expansion. Use drywall screws instead of nails to prevent future popping, and make sure to stagger seams for added stability.

Absolutely! Start with a good plan! Make sure to measure your walls accurately and cut your drywall to fit. Use a drywall lift if you can—it's a game changer for getting those sheets up! Don’t forget to wear a mask while sanding to avoid that dust cloud! Good luck, and have fun with it!

When in doubt, mud it out—just remember, a little extra sanding can hide all kinds of “learning experiences”!
